Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
Carabosse regards the promotions of Health and Safety measures to be a priority for all its members.
The company’s safety policy is to do all that is reasonably practical to protect members from personal injury, to prevent damage to property and to protect visitors and the public from foreseeable risk so far as they have reason to encounter Carabosse or its activities
Carabosse will take all reasonably practical steps to: -
1. Provide a safe place to carry out its activities
2, Review and revise this policy as necessary to deal with changing circumstances and to comply with current regulations
3. Ensure items supplied are safe and provide information, instruction and training as necessary
RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS
There is a general duty on every member to report to a member of Carabosse all matters they consider to be a hazard to health and safety and all its members must: -
1. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their actions during rehearsals, workshops and productions
2. Co-operate with the Board in all matters of health and safety
3. Use correctly any items provided by the Board in accordance with training and instructions
4. Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for health and safety
5. To consider risk factors and report to Director(s) to do risk assessment
6. To be responsible to complete accident in relevant health and safety book for themselves/ others
ARRANGEMENTS
Accidents
In the event of an accident beyond the ability of any First Aider present to deal with, an ambulance should be called immediately
All accident must be reported in the Accident book which will be provided at each session
There will be a First Aid Kit available at each session
FIRE PREVENTION AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
1. During rehearsals and workshops the Director(s) or allocated individual will be responsible for ensuring that emergency procedures are followed
2. During productions it is the responsibility of FOH staff to follow the procedures
LADDERS AND STEP LADDERS / GET IN/OUT
Working at heights is inherently dangerous, so work at a height requires help from others if both hands are required to complete a job
1. Check all ladders are safe to use and not defective, check for warping or missing treads or rungs
2. Ensure the ladder is of an adequate height to provide safe working
3. Always stand the ladder on a firm level base with someone securing the foot of the ladder with the ladder at the correct angle. One metre out for every four-metre height
4. Never overreach
5.Access ladders must project at least 1.1 metres ( 5 rungs) above any landing place
6. Check for any overhead obstructions
7.No children under the age of 16 will be allowed to use any ladders or be unaccompanied in the space
STAGE AREA
The stage area should be clean and tidy with all cables taped down, all cups, glasses or any food or drinks are not permitted on the stage except if they are part of the show/rehearsal/workshop
Temporary cables must not be run through fire doors, nor must they be prevented from closing
The Producer/Director should check the dressing rooms and any other area to ensure facilities and fixtures are in safe working order
Practical flame-retardant maintenance should be applied to all scenery including cloth, drapes, gauze and costumes, floral decorations, hangings and all fabric.
The stage area should not be congested with scenery or property and exits should be free from obstruction
MANUAL HANDLING
Before carrying out a task that requires manual handling, a risk assessment should be made by the individual and they must take reasonable care and responsibility for lifting or carrying out the task in a safe manner
Consider the following: -
The nature of the load and task ( is it heavy, bulky or hard to grasp and do you have to reach, bend, stretch, stoop or twist and how often)
Take your Individual capabilities seriously and do not undertake any task unless you are confident that you can do it safely
RISK ASSESSMENT
A risk assessment will be undertaken before any session by the Director(s) and prior to any exercise/ task undertaken to ensure the safety of the space and participants
All workshop/rehearsals/production participants must take full responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others
Drama workshops/rehearsals
It is the responsibility of each member of the Company to ensure that they are fit and healthy to undertake a workshop or rehearsal. If they are unwell or injured, they must sit out of any given task or use a suitable alternative (a chair to sit on if they are unable to get up /down )
As a workshop/rehearsal session requires movement/ dance and physical activity it is the responsibility of the individual that they are warmed up before the session (the facilitator will offer warm as part of the session, it is still advisable to warm up prior to the session)
As the company has many members it is the responsibility of individuals to ensure they/and others are safe prior to any given exercise/task and that they have sufficient space to participate safely
If a health and safety problem arises that cannot be resolved immediately it must be reported to the Director(s) in order that a risk assessment may be carried out
